A Reading List for Computer Science Students

A list of blogs, websites, books and pages I keep coming back to (or have bookmarked for later). This is filled with inspiration, cool hacks, things that blew my mind and altogether awesome stuff that I think everyone would benefit from seeing at least once.

Articles

I know how much I hated my undergrad networking module.

  1. A networking zine by Julia Evans, perfect for anyone trying to learn about networking in an approachable way.

TLDR; Explain what you know. Question your understanding. Ask specific questions that can be answered with fact. Ask about things you don’t understand.

  1. Asking better questions - I love this one because this is a skill everyone should develop and yet is very hard to get right.
  1. Being a wizard at your job. These are the people who appear to be able to see right at the heart of the problems they’re trying to solve, as well as the tools they’re working with.

Pages I love

Always fun to see what we missed out on...
  1. It’s Camerons world, we’re just living in it - arguably my favorite website that serves as an amalgamation for everything 90’s internet.

  2. Trauma Zines - it’s always fun reading something not Computer Science.
